Guys,

All my manuals and pictures are black and white, any ideas as to what colors the following cockpit levers and knobs should be?

- Control locks
- Trim handle
- Tailwheel lock handle
- Carb heat handle
- Fuel shut-off selector
- Magneto switch (I assume red)

Thanks,

Mike-

Mike -

Having just closely examined and extensively photographed the recently auctioned original and virtually-untouched-since-it-came-out-of-the-military Army Stearman I can offer this:

Control Locks - Red
Trim Handle - Interior Green Primer
Tailwheel Lock Handle - Unknown as this was an Army PT-17, but I'll bet they were red.
Carb Heat Handle - On the ship I just photographed it was painted with Interior Green Primer, however, I just ordered a replacement one from Dusters for my ship (my old one was cracked). The replacement I received was new old-stock (NOS) and was unpainted silver cad plate with a black plastic knob.
Fuel Selector - Red
Magneto Switch - Black

Hope this helps...

Mike out of all the original tail wheel lock handles I've seen, the color seems to be interior green. I did see one assembly where both handles were black but most are green. Anchor listed the other colors.
As far as that Stearman that was auctioned in CA, it was far from original from the factory or the military. But it is close. While in the military it was overhauled by a civilian contractor in July of 1944, Riddle Aeronautical Institute, while base in Florida and then went through one or two civilian owners before the last owner who had it for years. Some of the colors could have been changed by Riddle or any of the civil owners, such as the instrument panel colors. Some of the other non original things I saw were an extended handle for the carb heat control and extra bracing for the rear cockpit cowling.
